ARSENAL’S legendary manager Arsene Wenger will lead the Gunners Down Under for #ArsenalinSydney next month after agreeing a contract extension with the club.
Wenger has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him continue as manager for at least the next two seasons.
Currently the club’s longest-serving and most successful manager, Wenger’s new deal comes after he became the most decorated manager in FA Cup history on Saturday – hoisting the trophy for the 7th time and securing the club’s 3rd win in the last 4 seasons.
“I love this club and I am looking forward to the future with optimism and excitement,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.
“We are looking at what we do well and how we can be stronger everywhere. This is a strong group of players and with some additions we can be even more successful.
“We’re committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season.
“I am grateful to have the support of the board and Stan in doing everything we can to win more trophies – it’s what we all want and I know it’s what our fans around the world demand.”
The deal confirms Aussie Arsenal fans will have the chance to see football royalty in Sydney with Wenger now set to command his players from the sideline of ANZ Stadium next month.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said of the Gunners’ upcoming Sydney tour: “The club is excited to be travelling to Sydney in July.
“Personally, I lived in Sydney for three months when I was a student and it’s a city that I love. It’s absolutely spectacularly beautiful.
“It’s going to be a brilliant preparation for the team, a great way to connect with the very big Australian fanbase that we have and a wonderful, wonderful place for our players to visit that we’re all looking forward to.”
Arsenal will undertake a host of fan engagement activities when they hit our shores next month for the #ArsenalinSydney Tour with a number of activations planned around the city and outside ANZ Stadium on the two game days.
Plans are also being developed to give fans the opportunity to be photographed alongside the iconic FA Cup trophy ahead of the games, before the Cup is given pride of place on the Stadium pitch as the players enter the arena. This is truly an event not to be missed.
