LEGENDARY Arsenal Football Club Manager Arsene Wenger today spoke of the excitement among his players about the Arsenal In Sydney Tour as the team prepares for back-to-back blockbusters against Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers – and a week of fan engagement, sponsor and community activities.
Standing atop the Museum of Contemporary Art, Wenger said it was an honour to be in Sydney and the team was looking forward to seeing the legions of football fans who support the club in this part of the world.
“For us it’s great to be here because Arsenal is loved all over the world & especially in Australia,” said Wenger today.
“We are all looking forward to meeting the supporters and putting on two good performances.”
The Gunners Manager also confirmed that superstar signing, French International striker Alexandre Lacazette, will make his debut in the famous red and white shirt against Sydney FC on Thursday night and play a role again against the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night.
Hundreds of passionate supporters at Sydney Airport gave Arsenal a rousing reception on their 6:30am arrival – their first visit to Australia in more than 40 years.
Arsenal Manager Wenger was then joined at the Museum of Contemporary Art by players Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Petr Cech.
Sydney FC Foundation Shareholder and Director Michael Crismale, coach Graham Arnold and players David Carney and Andrew Redmayne represented the Sky Blues.
Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas, coach Tony Popovic, new marquee player Oriol Riera and Robbie Cornthwaite represented the Wanderers.
NSW Minister The Hon. Niall Blair MLC, Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase, Venues NSW CEO Paul Doorn and ANZ Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry formally welcomed Arsenal to Sydney and kicked off a week of activities.
More than 80,000 fans are expected to watch Emirates FA Cup Champions Arsenal play A-League Champions Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on Thursday 13 July, and then Western Sydney Wanderers at the same venue on Saturday 15 July.
A limited number of tickets are still available for these highly-anticipated sporting events.
Tickets start from just $39 for adults, $19.50 for juniors, and $99 for a family pass.
The Arsenal In Sydney Tour is a joint initiative by Destination NSW – the NSW Government’s lead agency for tourism and major events, ANZ Stadium operator VenuesLive, and the Arsenal Football Club.
Gates will open at ANZ Stadium at 6pm for both Arsenal v Sydney FC on Thursday 13 July and Arsenal v Western Sydney Wanderers, with the events starting at 7.30pm.
